Liposuction Risks Fat Tissue ImageThere are some risks just as with any other type of plastic surgery. The most comon risks that have already been covered in other cosmetic surgery articles on plastic-surgery.my include hematome, skin irregularities, seroma and hyper-discoloration.

Hematoma and seroma are conditions where red blood cells leak and form pools of blood under an area of your skin. The doctor will usually drain it out if too much is gathering at a spot.

Skin irregularities such as dimples occur when the plastic surgeon removes too much fat at one go. An alternative to this can be found in gradual liposuction that is broken up in sessions. Of course, the cost and hassle is increased. Hyper pigmentation is sometimes a problem where there is discoloration around the area of incision. In very bad cases, such a condition can last for years from liposuction surgery.

The use of Epinephrine during liposuction to dilate blood vessels has been known to increase the patients heart rate. As such, it is usually advised to avoid anything that may increase the patients heart rate such as coffee and smoking. Infections, while rare, are a real possiblity with any type of surgery, not just cosmetic surgery. Increased pain and swelling may signal an infection.

 

Nerve damage is another rare possiblity during liposuction surgery. Patients may experience altered sensations around the area that liposuction was performed. This usually goes away but in rare cases it is permanent. Allergic reactions on the other hand are very serious. Although rare, allergic reactions from anasthesia or other drugs used can cause a situation where the brain does not get enough oxygen.

Among obese patients that undergo liposuction treatement, a mroe common problem is removing too much fat at one time. As mentioned above, dimples and grooves and form if too much fat is removed. But more importantly, the risks involved are directly corelated to the amount of fat removed.

Internal organ punctures do happen sometimes. This is due to the fact that the surgeon cannot see is not able to see the cannula. In very rare cases, this can cause death. Having said that, actual fatalities from complications arising from liposuction are extremely rare.
