Facelift - Facelift Surgery Overview

Facelift DescriptionRhytidectomy, more commonly known as the facelift, is a procedure undergone for purely cosmetic purposes and is one of the more popular procedures as far as cosmetic surgery is concerned. The primary goal of any facelift is the removal of wrinkles and the tightening of the facial and neck skin. Recipients of successful facelift surgery generally report a huge confident boost as they generally feel younger.

This area of plastic surgery has been highly progressive over the years with new techniques and advances constantly being developed. There are two main types of facelifts. A mini facelift and a full facelift. The difference between the two lies in the area and size of the incision. Mini facelifts have their incisions perfomed slightly above the ear, going down behind the ear. Full facelift incisions start higher near the sides of your temple and progress down behind the ear and down the hairline.

Selection of mini and full facelifts really depends on what the patients goal of the surgery is. For those that are looking for subtle cosmetic changes via facelift surgery, a mini facelift is suitable. Those looking for rather dramatic changes usually opt for full facelifts. So it is important that the patient has a clear idea of what their goals are with the facelift. A capable plastic surgeon will be able to guide the patient through the steps necessary to achieving those targets as well as stating the facelift risks that are involved.

And here is a good photograph of what looks like a mini facelift. The results are subtle but effective. The skin has tightened up nicely with her jowls shaped up.
