Cosmetic Surgery is by far the most commonly seen and undergone surgery in the streets of Hollywood. Almost every A-list actor has had cosmetic surgery in their lifetime. And if they haven't, they probably will. Good cosmetic surgeons have premium fees, making them accessible to a specific segment of society. Namely, the elite.
Cosmetic surgery is not limited to augmentation on specific areas (i.e the face) but encompasses the entire body. As such, the range of cosmetic surgery procedures a plastic surgeon can perform is extremely wide. Some procedures are performed more than most. The usual suspects include, liposuction, breast augmentation, facelifts, Rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks.
The ultimate goal when undergoing cosmetic surgery is of course, personal happiness. As such, it is important to have very realistic expectations from the cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery after all, has its limits. It can merely modify the features one possesses to a certain degree. It cannot make you look like someone else. It can however, make you look like "something" else if enough augmentation is done (See Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong). Not everyone can undergo cosmetic surgery however. Those that are pregnant and have medical conditions such as diabetes are precluded.
Some cosmetic surgery procedures are usually only open to those reaching middle-age, such as face-lifts for example. But that does not mean those in their 20's do not opt for plastic surgery. many from the younger generation seem to undergo Rhinoplasty in large numbers. Lindsay Lohan for example. The pain experienced as well as the length of time it takes to heal depends entirely on the type of cosmetic surgery performed as well as the extensiveness of said cosmetic surgery. Generally however, pain is not an issue as cosmetic surgeons normally prescribe the appropriate pain killers to patients during the healing period.
Cosmetic surgery is almost never covered by your insurance plan unless reconstructve surgery is needed due to an illness, an accident or heavy burns. Otherwise enhancements via cosmetic surgery will not be covered. Lastly, there are risks involved in cosmetic surgery. Although very rare, the risks include Hematoma (Clotted blood in the tissue), Nerve Damage, Scarring, Reactions to chemicals used (anesthetic etc) and Necrosis (dying tissues from lack of oxygen). Always choose a certified plastic surgeon, look at his credentials and call up issuers if needed. There is no place for regrets when undergoing cosmetic surgery.
