In the neverending quest to retain a youthfull apprearance through the use of plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery as well as a myriad of treatments and creams, doctors have experimented with a wide variety of chemicals and techniques to achieve just that goal. Considering how the beauty market is worth billions of dollars every year, it is no wonder that a product like botox has gone mainstream. If you look at what botox actually is, i am sure you will agree with me.
Botox is a neurological toxin protein that is produced by a bacterium. It is widely held to be the most toxic substance known to modern medicine. Despite this, small amounts are used in the medical field, particularly when controlling muscle spasms. The toxin is mainly used in spasticity and muscle disorders. Current research include the use of the toxin in asthma and obesity treatments.
Injecting the toxin into muscles were found to decrease muscular activity as well as reducing contractions of the muscle. And this is how botox injection work. While injecting large amounts of the toxin can actually paralyze the muscle, botox doctors try to inject just enough to limit activity in facial areas that would otherwise produce wrinkles from normal facial movements.
The patient is usually asked to lie down as the doctor prepares the areas for injection via disinfectant (alchohol, etc). In some cases the doctor may choose to use a mild anesthetic in those areas. After this, botox injections are administered. The areas that are injected depend entirely on the amount of wrinkles found on various areas. Usually, the doctor will inject 3 to 4 times on either side of the forehead and a further 2 or more times around the eyes. The patient will wait 5 minutes after the botox injections to ensure he/she feels normal. It is recommended that patients do not lie down 4 hours after the injection to avoid bruising. Effects of botox injections can be seen as soon as 3 days. Botox cannot erase wrinkles, it merely relaxes them so they are not apparent from grimacing, smiling or squinting. There are number of advantages that botox has over conventional facelifts. The first is cost. They are much cheaper than full facelift surgeries making them accessible to people from most walks of life. It is also not as invasive as facelfits, no surgery is required, just a few quick injections here and there are needed. The results can be seen a lot quicker than facelifts as well. While facelift clients need upwards of a month to fully heal, botox smoothens wrinkles as soon as 3 days after the injections. There are however, a few downside. There are botox risks associated with the injections. Botox is temporary. Facelifts are a more permanent solution to facial aging.
