Botox - The Risks Of Botox Injections

Botox Risks ImageLike all things dealing with plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and other body modifications, there is a chance that things may go wrong. Because botox injections involve a potentially deadly neurotoxin, things can and do go wrong sometimes. The risks usually lie in improper dosages and botox injections by doctors that simply are not qualified for the task.

As such, the first thing you must ensure is confirming that the doctor knows what he or she is doing. How long has the doctor been administering botox injections? Is the doctor recognized by local hospitals? What are their qualifications?

Wrongfully administered, botox has the potential to cause a wide variety of side-effects. They include headaches, pain, nausea, bruising around the affected area as well as flu like conditions in the client. There may be some weakness of the facial muscles are well as reddening of the injected areas. Drooping of the injected is reported in about 5% of botox clients. To prevent drooping, it is important that the patient remain uprightfor 4 hours after the botox injections. Patients are advised to avoid touching the injected areas. Eyedrops can be used to clear up the drooping as fast as 3 days after use. Drooping may also be a cause of an overdose. In such cases, it is accompanied by weakened facial muscles as well. Very rarely, some patients may experience drooping eyelids.

For those that had injections around the mouth, there may be some drooling from the side of the mouth. As the effects of botox are temporary, such conditions should clear up over the months. There are some people that simply should not undergo botox treatment. They include people who suffer from bleeding disorders as well as those that have multiple sclerosis.

There have been no studies conducted on the long-term effects of botox injections as of yet. Until such studies are conducted, clients are opting to treat themselves blindly. If there are any side effects to be had, you can be sure they will appear in areas where a large portion of the populace use botox injections. Primarily rich, upper-class elite areas such as Hollywood. The prevalance of botox use should not be misconstrued as deeming it safe for the long-term. The FDA has publicly stated that botulism may result in very rare cases when the neurotoxin spreads from the injected area into other surrounding areas. Children treated for spasticity have been particularly susceptible.

Having said that, using botox injections as an anti-aging solution seems to bring about no major health complications. Whether this remains the same 20 years from now remains to be seen.
